Rome is synonymous of art and history: artistic beauties are everywhere and every corner of the city expands its historical essence, as if every street and every monument told something.
Less
Seat of the Christian religion, the historical-artistic itinerary through the streets of the Eternal City begins with a look at the Roman Catholic Church and the Minor Basilica of St. Peter in Vincoli inside which is housed the statue of Moses by Michelangelo, millions of faithful every year come from all over the world to admire its majesty.
The Ancient Rome is not hidden by the chaos of modern civilization but between the two is created a breathtaking contrast: in the center of Rome, including buses, taxis and modern cars, stands the Column of Trajan celebrating the victory of the Roman emperor in the war against the Dacians. The same happens in Piazza Venezia, where the imposing and almost severe dominates the Vittoriano, a monument built in honor of the King Vittorio Emanuele II, first king of the United Italy.
If in the past the administrative center was located in the imperial forums, today it is at the Campidoglio where all the attention is immediately captured in the center, where there is a copy of the statue of Marcus Aurelius.
Continuing on Via del Campodoglio and via San Teodoro you get to the Roman Forum and the Colosseum,(only external) “master” of the city center.
According to history Rome was founded in 753 BC by the brothers Romulus and Remus, according to the legend they were found in a basket in the church of S. Giorgio al Velabro, which we will reach from Via S. Teodoro.
Walking on foot in the Eternal City means getting rich inside and daydreaming.
The itinerary draws to a close with a touch of magic: the Church of S. Maria in Cosmedin is famous all over the world for its portico that houses the Bocca della Verità, which (according to legend) was used in the past for judge people’s honesty …… are you ready to test yourself?
